Sweet Fifteen: The Competition on the EU Sugar Markets

The Swedish Government has commissioned the Swedish Competition Authority to describe and analyse structural problems related to competition in the EU sugar and sweetener markets.

The report describes the interaction between competition law in the EU and the Common Market Organisation in Sugar (CMO Sugar). In addition, both the situation of industrial and retail buyers of sugar, and the competitive situation on the EU sugar markets are described and analysed. The report also contains a discussion on the effects of a number of reform proposals for the CMO Sugar and their possible impact on sugar markets in the European Union.
