The government is proposing that the Swedish Competition Authority receives an expanded budget for competition enforcement

The Competition Authority will receive increased resources to maintain and enhance effective and reliable competition enforcement. This is evident from the budget proposal presented by the government.

"I welcome the government's announcement of increased resources for the Swedish Competition Authority. It is a powerful investment in strengthened competition enforcement. It provides us with greater opportunities to develop our supervisory activities. With increased funds at our disposal, we have even better conditions to intervene against serious competition problems that harm consumers and the society’s economy," says Rikard Jermsten, Director General of the Swedish Competition Authority.

According to the government's announcement in the budget bill, the Swedish Competition Authority's operations will receive an additional annual budget allocation of SEK 30 million in increased funding to strengthen competition enforcement and supervision.

The Swedish Competition Authority's mandate is to promote well-functioning markets. This is achieved through the supervisory activities carried out by the authority and through the investigative work conducted by the Swedish Competition Authority with the aim of developing and disseminating new knowledge about how markets work. With the support of this knowledge, the Swedish Competition Authority can highlight the need for and propose changes that promote competition.

"Increased resources give us the opportunity to intensify our work and prioritize more issues related to the competition situation in various markets. Effective competition and efficient public procurement are essential functions for addressing important societal challenges," says Rikard Jermsten.
