Investigation into car advertisements closed

As a result of the advertising sites Blocket and Byt Bil changing their terms and conditions for car dealers wishing to advertise, the Swedish Competition Authority has now closed its investigation.

Those car dealers who wish to advertise vehicles on the Blocket AB advertising site have also been required to advertise on the Byt Bil Nordic AB advertising site. This may have negatively affected competition by limiting the customer base of other advertising platforms. Both advertisement sites have the same owner, Schibsted.

Recently, Blocket and Byt Bil informed the Swedish Competition Authority that they will change their business model for car dealers in such a way that advertising in Blocket becomes part of a basic product and advertising on Byt Bil becomes an additional service.

In view of the fact that the companies are introducing a changed business model towards car dealers, the Swedish Competition Authority has made the assessment that there is no reason to prioritise further investigation. The investigation has now been closed.
