Marie Östman new Chief Legal Officer at Swedish Competition Authority

Marie Östman will be the new Chief Legal Officer at the Swedish Competition Authority as of 1 September. Marie has extensive experience of matters relating to competition law and joins the organisation from a position at a law firm.

“I look forward to returning to the Swedish Competition Authority and an exciting and challenging job in the role of Chief Legal Officer. With my background as a lawyer and my previous experience from the Swedish Competition Authority, I hope to be able to contribute to finding smart ways to continue to develop supervisory activities and strategic work within the authority’s areas of responsibility,” says Marie Östman.

Marie Östman previously worked for several years as Legal Counsel in the Swedish Competition Authority’s Legal Department, among other things representing the Swedish Competition Authority in court in various legal proceedings as well as assuming responsibility for the legal analysis in investigations.

Marie also spent several years working for the legal firm Vinge in Stockholm and in Brussels where she specialised in EU and Swedish competition law. Marie has also worked at the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation on matters relating to competition and state aid. She is co-author of the standard work “Competition Law ‑ A Handbook”.

As Chief Legal Officer, Marie Östman will be Director of the Legal Department and a member of the Swedish Competition Authority’s management team.
