From 1 September 2008 until 31 July 2009, the Swedish Competition Authority’s Chief Economist, Professor Sten Nyberg, will be on leave of absence to pursue research at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, US.
Acting Chief Economist during this period will be Arvid Fredenberg, a doctor of economics who is currently Assistant Chief Economist at the Authority.
For the Competition Authority, economic research and the dissemination of information are major priorities, representing its third area of activity. The Authority provides grants to a number of research projects in the competition field, funds workshops and organises the annual Pros & Cons conference, which brings together leading researchers and practitioners in this field. It also grants research-trained members of staff time to conduct research as part of their work for the Authority.
